We have signed a contract to buy the whole building to better serve our needs, since we had faster growth than we had anticipated. This will relieve overcrowding and give us more program options. We will need additional funds for remodeling, for equipment and for building security.
Our first priority is to do some remodeling to make the building fit our needs. The spaces have been opened up to provide access to the whole area for our guests. Storage areas have been organized and set up for individual use, and work is under way to reconfigure the clothing and food storage spaces.
Laundry & Showers
One of our high priorities is to provide laundry facilities and showers for our guests. Being clean and well-groomed will help them to become more accepted by the community. Uncertainty about our building status has put this on hold.
A dream of ours will be to build in a kitchen where we can prepare food, instead of having meals and cooked items brought in from outside. We will need large ovens and stove, as well as refrigerators and freezer. Again, uncertainty about our building's status has put this on hold.
Another thing on our dream list is a mini-lab of computers, so our guests can do on-line searches for jobs, housing and other resources. Right now, we have only one older laptop for guest use, though the building is networked so guests can use phones and their own laptops to access resources.
Thanks to generous community donations, our bathrooms have been upgraded, though floors still need work.
